Truly trivial

During filming of 'Lifeboat', several of the crew members noted that actress Tallulah Bankhead was not wearing underwear. When advised of this situation, director Alfred Hitchcock observed, "I don't know if this is a matter for the costume department or hairdressing."

In the 1950s Groucho Marx was invited to take a tour of the New York Stock Exchange. While in the observation booth, he grabbed the public address system handset and began singing "Lydia the Tattooed Lady". Upon hearing silence coming from the trading floor, he walked into view, was given a loud cheer by the traders, and shouted, "Gentlemen, in 1929 I lost eight hundred thousand dollars on this floor, and I intend to get my money's worth!" For fifteen minutes, he sang, danced, told jokes, and all this time, the Wall Street stock ticker was running blank.

Filming of the Cyd Charisse dance number in 'Singing in the Rain' had to be stopped for several hours after it was discovered that her pubic hair was visible through her costume. When the problem was finally fixed, the director said, "It's OK, guys, we've finally got Cyd's crotch licked."

Lina Lamont: What do they think I am? Dumb or something? Why, I make more money than - than - than Calvin Coolidge! Put together! (From 'Singing in the rain')

Lina Lamont: If we bring a little joy into your humdrum lives, then our hard work ain't been in vain for nothin' (From 'Singing in the rain')
